Seeing as I go back to school in two days, I should probably post one last (random) journal before my life rather disappears. I feel like I've been much busier than I have been during any other summer, though I didn't realize it until now. I didn't even realize until yesterday that my vacation time was almost over. Did time speed up, or is it just me? Something is strange here - I've never been subject to the voracious time-stealing nature of life in the modern world. At least I've been able to restrain it before....
Anyway, a few interesting things have happened in the past month (since my last journal - and the rain has barely slowed since then).
First, I went to a book release party for "Breaking Dawn" at the town library, which involved a lot of people I knew, the librarian's very friendly dog, and an awful lot of raspberry licorice candy. The "normal" aspect of that is that pretty much everyone around here has read the "Twilight" series. The nerdy part, though, is that I hadn't read it, but I liked the idea of being in the library at midnight with my friends who tend to live there anyway
Next, and this was probably the highlight of my summer, I went to a JETHRO TULL CONCERT!!
And my new reason for ranting - as of a week ago, I am doing archiving work for the town historical society. I wasn't entirely excited when this project started, because the new collection they received mostly relates to the 1950s-onward, and I generally am interested in "older" history. But once we started, I realized we'd gotten photographs from as far back as the 1840s - as old as photographs can possibly be. And the corresponding genealogy research dates back even further. There is a lot of cataloging to be done, but I love what work I've been doing so far. I've done some exploring of the archives as well, which has been amazing - some of my favorite things I've come across were a Regency spencer jacket, a logbook that included instructions for making "Magic Healing Powder", letters from the Civil War, and of course some very interesting newspapers. What made the news in 1890 can be very amusing, whether it be for the simplicity or the wording - for example, "... A Mr. Philbrook, believing the train had missed his stop, became suddenly very excited, and jumped from the train. He struck a post with great force.... " (Not that flying unexpectedly into posts is in itself funny if you think about doing it yourself - it seems rather painful, but the blunt wording of the article must be commended
I believe I have exceeded my emoticon quota for this journal... so I shall break off here.
Cheerio, everyone, and hopefully I don't have to abandon deviantART completely in the coming months.
Devious Comments
I concur with you about their earlier music being the better stuff, and also wish I could have seen them in their early years..... my favourite album would be 'Stand Up', closely followed by 'Songs from the Wood'.
Enjoy going back to school

My gallery will make you go 'ooooh, pretty'
It seems like Ian is losing his voice by now... his singing was always odd, but it didn't seem as strong as before when I saw the concert. He's still the Whistler though
